Free items, fireworks, and fish

Animal Crossing August

August is upon us – and that means more stuff to see and do in Animal Crossing…!

Everyone loves free stuff

Since it’s a new month, that means more free furniture from Pelly. Connect to the internet via a Nintendo Zone hotspot, speak to the pursed-lipped postal Pelican [Pelly the Pelican... how did I only just get that?!] and ask about presents. She’ll present you with… *drumroll* a festival lantern. Okay, it’s not an exclusive item, but it’s free.

Speak to Pelly while connected to non-Nintendo wifi and you’ll receive… *bigger drumroll*… an ugly fireworks table. Oh well – free stuff is free stuff, I suppose.

BOOM! CRACKLE! FIZZ! etc.

Speaking of fireworks, August is fireworks season in the village! That’s right – every Sunday evening, from 7pm, you can watch explosions pop and fizzle overhead – much to the delight of your animal friends. Of course, it wouldn’t be much fun if, like real animals, they hid in the house and peed on all the furniture. But I digress…

New Leaf has mixed things up a bit. As in previous games, you can still receive a selection of themed gifts, but now they’re distributed by Isabelle instead of old Tortimer. What’s more, however, you can also ask Isabelle to incorporate one of your designs into the pyrotechnics. That’s right: YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN EXPLOSION. *ahem* Sorry about the capitals, but that’s cool!

What else? Oh yeah – Redd will be attending with a fortune cookie stall. Rumour has it that some of the fortunes can be exchanged for gifts. I guess we’ll have to wait and see…

“I shall call him ‘Squishy’ and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy”

August 16th-31st is your only chance to catch a jellyfish. These stingy blighters are fairly abundant throughout this period but, if you forget, you’ll have to wait almost a year for another chance!

Jellyfish

They’re not around for long but, when they are, they’re around in abundance!

August is also your last chance to catch the following:
Frog
Giant Snakehead
Killifish
Napoleonfish
